Southeast Construction has announced that the Sanibel Recreation Center has been selected as the recipient of the “Best of 2008” Sports Recreation Project for the southeast region.

City of Sanibel Recreation Center is Southeast Construction Best of ’08 Sports/Recreation Project
Southeast Construction has announced that the Sanibel Recreation Center has been selected as the recipient of the “Best of 2008” Sports Recreation Project for the southeast region. The judges reviewed 129 nominated projects. Judges were chosen based on their industry knowledge, expertise and independence. The panel of judges rated projects of the following criteria:
- Solution to design challenges
- Project Management
- Design Innovation
- Job Safety
- Design Unity
The “Best of” designation is awarded to the highest scoring entry in each category. In selecting the Sanibel Recreation Center, special note was made of the “many green features including a hydrochlorofluorocarbon-free air conditioning system, solar thermal systems, deck furniture manufactured from recycled materials and water conservation plumbing. The construction of the 186,000 square foot center was completed in 15 months and under budget. No job related injuries occurred during construction of the project.
Located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, the Sanibel Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, weight room complete with cardiovascular equipment, tennis courts, locker rooms, outdoor solar heated exercise and lap pools, teen room and meeting rooms. The judges recognized the project as “an affordable facility where residents can exercise and entertain children in after school programs.”
