City of Sanibel Recreation Department introduces the “Guest Reader” Program

The City of Sanibel Recreation Department kicked off the “Guest Reader” program on October 5th with Sanibel Fire Chief, Danny Duncan reading one of his favorite books to the kindergarten and first grade after school program participants. The “Guest Reader” program was developed to enhance a sense of community while encouraging children to enjoy reading outside of school. This program takes place on Wednesday afternoons throughout the school year as members of the community volunteer their time to read their favorite childhood books and briefly discuss highlights of their profession. Some of the future readers this school year will include, President of Florida Gulf Coast University Dr. Wilson Bradshaw, Florida Everblades mascot “Swampee,” and NBC2 meteorologist Robert VanWinkle.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road. Daily, weekly and annual memberships are available. For more information call the Sanibel Recreation Center at (239) 472-0345 or visit our web site at www.mysanibel.com .
