City of Sanibel and Lee County Natural Resources Present Two Part Presentation on “Illicit Discharges and Pollution Prevention Technologies”

On Wednesday, July 18th, 2012, at 9 a.m., the City of Sanibel will host the Lee County Department of Natural Resources two part presentation on “Illicit Discharges and Pollution Prevention Technologies,” in MacKenzie Hall, Sanibel City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road, Sanibel, FL 33957.

Presentation Part I - Lee County Department of Natural Resources will discuss federal laws as well as local laws and regulations designed to protect our waterways. The term ‘illicit discharge’ will be defined and pictorial examples will help to identify these water violations. This presentation is applicable to the employees charged with protecting local waters or anyone interested in keeping our waters clean. Local contractors and the public are welcome.

Presentation Part II – Will discuss pollution prevention technologies and OSHA regulations as they apply to operations in Public Works, along with Employee Right to Know and Community Right to Know regulations. The following will be available; MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) handbooks, BMP’s (Best Management Practice) for operations, and cheat sheet that complies with Mercury Rule/Universal Waste Rule.

The general public and workers employed in island maintenance, building industry, landscaping, and environmental issues and procedures are encouraged to attend Part I. All are welcome to attend Part II, which will have special emphasis on Public Works operations.
