Five Scholarships Awarded to Dependents of City Employees
Under the leadership of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation an endowment was established following Hurricane Charley in 2004 to provide scholarships for dependents of City employees. This year the partnership will grant $2,750 in scholarship awards for academic year 2012-2013.

Five Scholarships Awarded to Dependents of City Employees
Under the leadership of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation an endowment was established following Hurricane Charley in 2004 to provide scholarships for dependents of City employees. This year the partnership will grant $2,750 in scholarship awards for academic year 2012-2013.
Miranda Ashby – Miranda graduated in May 2012 from North Fort Myers High School with a 3.79 GPA, was a member of the National Honor Society and acquired a score of 1580 on her SAT’s. She is attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando pursuing a degree in the Social Sciences.
Miranda is the daughter of Lieutenant Scott Ashby, Police Department who has been employed by the City for 29 years.
Taylor Ashby – Taylor graduated in May 2009 from North Fort Myers High School with a 3.85 GPA. He is attending the University of South Florida, College of Education.Taylor will begin his internship for education.

Elizabeth Chamberlain – Elizabeth graduated from Ft. Myers High School with a GPA of 4.52 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She is attending Florida State University. She was a member of the honor society this past year.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Dave DeFonzo, Recreation Department, who has been employed as a Recreation Specialist by the City approximately 21 years.
Joseph Earle – Joe attended Sanibel Elementary-Middle School and graduated in June 2009 from South Fort Myers High School with a 3.2 GPA. He is currently Tallahassee Community College.
Joe is the son of Nancy Earle, Recreation Department, who has been employed as a Lifeguard by the City approximately 5 years.
Andrea Wesserling Galician – Andrea obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida in Communications. She is pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Nursing at Hillsborough Community College with a goal to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Andrea is the daughter of Laura Wesserling, Building Department, who has been employed by the City for 16 years.
