Replacements Named For City's Retiring Finance Director and Recreation Director - July 8, 2008
Today, Sanibel City Manager Judie Zimomra announced the appointment of Sylvia Edwards to the position of Finance Director and Christopher Deal to the position of Recreation Director. Edwards and Deal replace the City’s retiring Finance Director Renee Lynch and Recreation Director Helene Phillips.

Replacements named for City’s Retiring Finance Director and Recreation Director
Today, Sanibel City Manager Judie Zimomra announced the appointment of Sylvia Edwards to the position of Finance Director and Christopher Deal to the position of Recreation Director. Edwards and Deal replace the City’s retiring Finance Director Renee Lynch and Recreation Director Helene Phillips. Lynch is retiring from the City with 22 ½ years of service and Phillips retired in June with over 27 years as a City of Sanibel employee.
Edwards, a Certified Public Account (CPA), who begins her City employment on July 14, 2008, has served as the Finance Director for the City of Lake Wales, Florida since 2002. Edwards earned her Master of Business Administration from Saint Leo University. During her tenure in Lake Wales, Edwards oversaw a staff of 9 employees and a total operating budget of $51 million dollars, including enterprise funds. Edwards also gained experience in Lake Wales administering FEMA hurricane recovery funds and developing citizen friendly online services. Edwards is also a Florida Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO).
Deal, who joins the Sanibel staff on August 4, 2008, is currently employed as the Parks and Recreation Director by the City of Liberty, Missouri. Deal earned his Master of Science in Parks and Recreation Public Administration from the University of Missouri. Deal is a Certified Parks & Recreation Professional and has completed the FEMA National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Training. Deal’s accomplishments in Liberty include enhancing programs through membership fees and non-tax supported revenues. Deal is also the past President of the Kansas City Area Parks and Recreation Directors and past Municipal Section President for the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association (MPRA)
