The following Special Events have been permitted by the City of Sanibel for this weekend:
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31st
8 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. –Kiss 2011 Good-Bye! New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 San-Cap Road
The Sanibel Recreation Center's New Year's Eve Celebration is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event sponsored by the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Foundation, City of Sanibel, local businesses, families and individuals.
- Advance ticket prices: Children 6 & under free <> Children (7 to 17 years old) $12 (At the Door $15) <> Adults (18 & Older) $15 (At the Door $20)
- Admission includes: all you can eat food & refreshments, strolling magician, ventriloquist, juggler, Teen Play, Minute-to-Win-It, Dance 'Til You Can't with DJ Chad G., Prizes for Father Time/Mother Time/Baby New Year, New Year's Eve Countdown and Balloon Drop with Surprises.
- 50/50 Raffle Drawing - 6 raffle tickets for $5.00. The winning ticket is drawn at 11:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. You do not need to be present to win. Buy your tickets at the City of Sanibel Recreation Center located at: 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel, FL. Last year’s winner won $1,350. (50% of proceeds go to the City of Financial Assistance Program to help children attend the after school program and the other 50% goes to the WINNER!)
- BINGO-4-Adults Only - $8,000 in prizes and 35 games. Play begins at 8:30 p.m. Prizes include resort stays, golf outings, jewelry, gift certificates, excursions with experts, autographed books and sculpture. Advance BINGO admission is $85 (At the door admission is $100)
Proceeds from the Kiss 2011 Good-Bye New Year's Eve Event assist youth of financially eligible families to attend the After-School Program, Fun Days, Holiday and Summer Day Camps.
6:30 p.m. – New Year’s Eve Dinner & Dance, at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way
SUNDAY, JANUARY 1st
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Sanibel Island Farmer’s Market, City Hall Grounds, 800 Dunlop Road
The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, 950 Dunlop Road, is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Museum and Village was founded in 1984 with a mission to preserve and share Sanibel’s unique history from the Calusa and Spanish eras to the early pioneer families who settled on the island in the 1800’s.
The City of Sanibel is a “walkable and bikeable” community and features one of the most extensive shared use paths in the State of Florida. Attendees to these special events are encouraged to enjoy our good nature, bicycle to these events and stay FIT-4-LIFE!
