Sanibel Recreation Department Recognizes Member of the Month Roy Awe

The City of Sanibel Recreation Department would like to recognize the Member of the Month Roy Awe.

Roy is retired from the Detroit Police Department Homicide Section and now enjoys the “good life” spending winters at his Sanibel home. He frequented the old recreation center since the mid-1970’s and immediately joined the new recreation center upon its opening in 2007. While Roy and his wife enjoy the pool and weight room facilities, the real life changing benefit came from a complimentary health screening that was hosted at the recreation center. Roy explains, “During a skin cancer screening by the Harris Dermatology Group last March, an area was discovered on my right upper arm. I had that mole for approximately ten years. It turns out, that it was a melanoma. I had the surgery that saved my life in April 2009!”
