Sanibel Recreation Department Recognizes Volunteer of the Month Ann Moeder
The City of Sanibel Recreation Department would like to recognize Volunteer of the Month Ann Moeder.
Ann Moeder has been a full time volunteer at the Center 4 Life since 2003. She volunteers at the front desk and as Volunteer Program Coordinator. Moeder assists the Program Administrator, Sandi McDougall, with organizing monthly trips and activities for seasonal and year round residents and has made some wonderful friends while doing it. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at the Center 4 Life Moeder replied, “It is a fabulously warm and inviting place to be! You can walk in anytime of the day and find a friendly face, something to drink and a comfortable place to sit and chat, read, watch TV or just sit outside surrounded by Gordon Kraft’s beautiful garden”.
Moeder grew up in Ithaca, New York where she majored in Fine Arts at Cornell University and worked for TIAA-CREF in New York City until 1965 when she met her husband Dan Moeder. Moeder went on to work in the admissions office at Columbia University while her husband was earning his M.B.A. at the Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in New York City. In 1973, with two young children, they headed overseas for Dan’s career and spent the next 14 years in Puerto Rico, Sydney Australia and Mexico City. While living overseas, Moeder became a “professional volunteer” because “expat wives” were unable to work. In the years to follow, Moeder ended up in Foster’s City, California where she became involved with the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University until moving to Sanibel in 2003. Now on Sanibel, Moeder also volunteers at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum and at the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation.
