Sanibel Recreation Department Recognizes Volunteers of the Month Dan & Judy Davis

The City of Sanibel Recreation Department would like to recognize Volunteers of the Month Dan & Judy Davis.

Dan and Judy Davis have volunteered at the Sanibel Recreation Center since the first year of operation providing tours for patrons and assisting in the weight room with orientations. They have also volunteered with other various projects such as mulching, painting the dugouts and fitting bike helmets at our bike safety day. The Davises enjoy the people they meet volunteering and the hardworking staff they interact with but their favorite part is the sense of accomplishment they get from helping others and the exercise. When asked how volunteering has impacted their lives they replied, “Both of us grew up in active volunteer families in our communities and we are pleased that our four children and five grandchildren follow the pattern.” They like that Sanibel’s organizations really welcome volunteers and set a priority with training and diverse opportunities.

Dan and Judy are both retired educators. Dan Davis was a Management and Accounting Professor and also taught military personnel overseas. Judy Davis taught primary school grades in New York State. The final 5 years they were the resident professors and instructors in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Sanibel Island is their home for 7 months of the year because they love the quality of life enhanced by nature, the foresight of the Sanibel Plan and the terrific organizations.
