Sanibel Residents Invited to Attend Open House at the Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility in Celebration of Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day and Lee County’s 125th Birthday, the Lee County Solid Waste Division is hosting an Open House at the Resource Recovery Facility at 10500 Buckingham Road, Ft. Myers on April 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As Lee County property owners, Sanibel residents’ tax dollars support the Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility and are invited to attend this tour and see what happens to their garbage and recyclables once they leave the curb.

The Open House will include tours of the Solid Waste campus including the award winning Waste-to-Energy Facility, Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling Facility, and Horticulture Waste Operations, as well as a live action look into the single-stream operations at the Material Recycling Facility. Lee County’s franchise haulers will display some of their environmentally friendly Hybrid and Compressed Natural Gas powered garbage and recycling trucks. Refreshments will be served by FCR, Inc. and Covanta of Lee, Inc.

This event coincides with Earth Day to focus on the vital role residents’ play in achieving a sustainable, environmentally friendly, solid waste management system.
