Sanibel Veteran's Honored with Award Winning Film
Film originally created for the Veteran’s Day assembly at the Sanibel School, earned 1st Place in the Documentary Category at the 2011 Lee County Film Festival, which featured over 350 films from more than 1,000 Lee County private and public school students.
Sarah Adler, a seventh grade student at the Sanibel School, produced a documentary honoring her sister, LTJG Carly Adler, and all United States Veterans. Sarah’s film, which she originally created for the Veteran’s Day assembly at the Sanibel School, earned 1st Place in the Documentary Category at the 2011 Lee County Film Festival, which featured over 350 films from more than 1,000 Lee County private and public school students.
Sarah’s sister, Carly, is currently deployed on the destroyer USS Chung Hoon, and will return on December 1st to Pearl Harbor. In May, LTJG Adler will be stationed in San Diego, working with the Safe Harbor Foundation which is the Navy’s version of Wounded Warriors.
Sarah is the youngest of 3 children and has been a student at the Sanibel School since starting kindergarten in 2004. Sarah plans to pursue a career as a Cinematographer or Director. Her sister, Carly, attended the Sanibel School from 1991 to 1997 and is a graduate of Bishop Verot High School. Sarah’s oldest sister, Shelly, lives in Palo Alto, CA, and is an Honors Graduate of the University of Florida. The Adler girls, along with their proud parents, John and Elaine Adler, have been residents of Sanibel since 1991.
