TRAFFIC ADVISORY! Sanibel Luminary and Festival of the Islands Tonight, December 2, 2011

Tonight, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., is the 27th Annual Luminary hosted by the Sanibel & Captiva Islands’ Chamber of Commerce. The Luminary Festival is a community-wide holiday event that brings together residents, visitors, businesses and organizations, promoting goodwill and community spirit.

From Causeway Boulevard to Periwinkle Way, Tarpon Bay Road and Palm Ridge Road, there will be numerous locations to stop and enjoy photos with Santa, enter shops, Church Bazaars, Businesses decorated with lights, music and family friendly activities.

Complimentary Luminary Route Trolley Service Stops include:

  • Seahorse Shops (Refreshments & Band)
  • Jerry’s Shopping Center (Pictures with Santa)
  • Tahitian Gardens (Band)
  • Periwinkle Place (Pictures with Santa, Refreshments & Entertainment)
  • Schoolhouse Theater & Sanibel Community House (Lion’s Club Fish Fry)
  • The Village Shops
  • Hungry Heron Plaza
  • Tower Gallery
  • Sanibel Promenade
  • Olde Sanibel Shoppes
  • Bailey’s Shopping Center

The following merchants will also participate in Luminary activites:

  • Sanibel Island Book Shop (Book Signing)
  • Sanibel Community Church (Bazaar – Beginning at Noon) (Live Nativity)
  • Forever Green Shops (Refreshments)
  • Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ (Refreshments & Music)
  • Islander Center (Outdoor Movie)

EXTREMELY heavy motorist, pedestrian and bicycle traffic is expected for this event. If you do not plan on attending the Luminary event along the entire length of Periwinkle Way, you should seek an alternate route during this time to avoid heavy traffic delays.

The City of Sanibel Chief of Police Bill Tomlinson reminds cyclists if you choose to bike to this event, State Law requires your bike be equipped with a light after dark.
