Water Quality Legislation Update - Your Input Made a Difference!

In part due to the correspondence Sanibel residents sent to our local legislators, pending House Bill 421 which would preempt local communities’ authority to reasonably regulate fertilizer application has been temporarily postponed “(TP).”

Sanibel Vice Mayor stated, “We have won a battle but not the war; we all need to prepare to continue this fight throughout the legislative session.” The Vice Mayor, who attended last week’s legislative hearings in Tallahassee, thanked all Sanibel citizens who assisted with sending emails and made phone calls to State Representatives Caldwell and Williams. “Our citizens’ input makes a difference and is appreciated."

The City of Sanibel will continue to monitor this important environmental legislation and advise citizens when their assistance is needed in the future.
