CITY of SANIBEL INCREASES REVENUE by SELLING OBSOLETE EQUIPMENT via INTERNET
Since approved by City Council, the City of Sanibel has generated $6,448 in revenue by selling obsolete equipment via the Internet. To date the City has sold a confiscated police vehicle, a boat, and computer equipment.
The previous process of disposing of surplus fixed assets required extensive storage space and the disposal process was very time consuming. The Internet-based auction provides for the disposal of surplus fixed assets in a timelier manner resulting in an earlier receipt of resources from fixed asset sales. The pool of potential purchasers is greatly expanded through internet sales. Finally, the City no longer incurs the cost of an auctioneer and advertising the auctions.
The City of Sanibel sells obsolete fixed assets on the website, www.GovDeals.com. Citizens interested in purchasing City surplus or obsolete fixed assets are encouraged to monitor the website.
