Special Event Traffic Advisory - Saturday, October 17, 2009

Due to the F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Here) 10K race beginning at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Sanibel Community Association, traffic delays can be expected along Periwinkle Way from Tarpon Bay Road east to Casa Ybel Road, Middle Gulf Drive, Algier’s Lane, and Island Inn Road.

Annual Shared Use Path Repairs Project - Path parallel to Rabbit Road - October 19th

Beginning Monday, October 19th, the City of Sanibel’s contractor, Gulf Paving, will begin the scheduled asphalt repairs to the Shared Use Path running parallel to Rabbit Road. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

6 Yoga Classes Now Included with Sanibel Recreation Center Membership - Classes Start Monday, October 19th

Effective Monday, October 19, 2009, 6 Yoga classes a week will be included in Sanibel Recreation Center membership and no additional fee will be charged.

Vegetation Contractors Complete Vegetation Competency Requirements

On October 9, 2009, ten new vegetation contractors passed the City’s Vegetation Competency Card course.

All Sanibel youth grades Kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to attend the Bike Safety Course and Rodeo on Thursday, October 22nd from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Sanibel School Pavilion.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is hosting “Fun Days” on Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th, for youth in Kindergarten through Eighth gradefrom 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Annual Street Resurfacing Project - Tarpon Bay Road Paving

As part of the Street Resurfacing project the City’s contractor will be paving Tarpon Bay Road between Island Inn Road and Sanibel-Captiva Road. The construction activity is scheduled for Monday afternoon, October 12th through Wednesday, October 14th.

Annual Street Resurfacing Project - Periwinkle Radii and Road Widening

As part of the Street Resurfacing project the City’s contractor will be widening some drive apron radii and areas of the road on Periwinkle Way between Donax Street and Huxters market. The construction activity is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7th through Friday, October 9th.

Free Skin Cancer Screening at the Sanibel Recreation Center

Screenings are quick and easy. The exam is a non-invasive, visual inspection of exposed areas of the body that will be done after a brief medical history is completed.

Upcoming American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course at the Sanibel Recreation Center

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course is a 3-day course in which participants will be trained as Professional Rescuers in lifeguarding, first aid, and adult, child and infant CPR / AED.

City Of Sanibel Fishing Pier Re-Opens

The American Red Cross Pet First Aid course gives pet owners the confidence and skills necessary to tend to unexpected emergencies until they can get their pet to a veterinarian.

Breast Cancer Awareness Educational Presentation - October 6, 2009 - 8:15 A.M. - Sanibel City Hall

The City of Sanibel City Council will hold an educational session concerning Breast Cancer Awareness on October 6, 2009, 8:15 a.m. at MacKenzie Hall, prior to the regular City Council meeting where a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be read.

 

Night Work for Road Striping Repairs to Continue on Periwinkle Way

On Monday, September 28, 2009 the City of Sanibel will continue road striping repair work on Periwinkle Way in multiple areas from Causeway Boulevard to Palm Ridge Road. To minimize inconvenience to the public the construction activities will be done at night and may last through the week.
