National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory for Lee County for Saturday, June 20th
The City of Sanibel has received notification from the National Weather Service in Ruskin, Florida, that a Heat Advisory has been issued for Lee County, including Sanibel, from Noon to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday June 20, 2009.

Sanibel Second Grade Students Learn About Culture and Manners Through New Course
The Sanibel Recreation Center sponsored an after-school enrichment program. Second graders learned about different languages, different alphabets and habits of other countries then explored how Americans use manners as part of our culture. The group learned to make introductions and write formal invitations. As a final exercise, they invited their parents to have tea at the Sanibel Recreation Center.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department Conducting Helicopter Air to Water Exercises along Sanibel Causeway - Monday, June 15, 2009

Sanibel Police Arrest Two Burglars - Police Chief Issues Tips to Residents for Hiring Contractors
Sanibel Police Department has arrested two 19 year old males, with Fort Myers addresses, for home burglary and larceny. The arrests were made after an anonymous tip was reported to the Sanibel Police Department. An investigation revealed the defendants burglarized a home that was being remodeled.
Barge Operation under the Periwinkle Way and Limpet Bridge Tonight - June 11, 2009
Tonight, at low tide between the hours of 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., Banks Brothers Marine Contractors will move a barge under the bridge at Periwinkle Way and Limpet. There will be no construction noise as part of this operation. It is necessary for the Barge to be moved at low tide due to height clearance under the bridge for the barge and crane.

New Summer Hours for Sanibel Seniors’ Center
Beginning June 15th, 2009 through October 1st, 2009, the Seniors’ Center will begin a modified summer hours schedule.
Sanibel Boat Ramp Closed June 22 through June 26 for Dredging
On Monday, June 22, 2009 the City of Sanibel will begin maintenance dredging of the area adjacent to the City’s public boat ramp. The boat ramp will not be available for use during the construction period of June 22, 2009 through June 26, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience while this important public improvement project is completed. Funding for this dredging project is through a West Coast Inland Navigation grant.
Prescribed Burns on Sanibel Scheduled the week of June 8th, 2009
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) will be conducting prescribed burns on the Foundation’s conservation lands in the Center Tract (along the south side of Sanibel-Captiva Road between MM1 and MM2), and the Frannie’s and Johnston Preserves (along the east side of Tarpon Bay Road) on Monday June 8 through Friday June 12, 2009 to help preserve the natural ecology of the area and to reduce the likelihood of catastrophic wildfires.
