Check out February 2010 Healthy Heart Month's Week Four Events.

The following holiday weekend Special Events have been permitted by the City of Sanibel:

All proceeds from the sign purchase are applied to the City of Sanibel Recreation Center Financial Assistance Program. This program assists Parents, Grandparents, and Legal Custodians who financially qualify for their children to attend the After School Program, Summer Day Camp and Fun Days at the Sanibel Recreation Center.

Come to the Sanibel Recreation Center for a morning of fun competition and try out your free throw shooting abilities at the Sanibel Basketball Shootout at 10 am on Saturday, March 6th at the Sanibel Recreation Center. Join neighbors, friends and visitors in this tournament style competition playing with the best Sanibel has to offer.

The veterinarians at CROW Wildlife Rehabilitation Center on Sanibel have positively identified canine distemper in raccoons that have been brought in recently for treatment.

As part of February’s Healthy Heart Month, enjoy the unique fitness opportunity of Outdoor Yoga at Bowman’s Beach on Tuesday, February 23rd from 10 – 11 am.

The City of Sanibel has been notified that the United States Census Bureau has numerous job opportunities available for local residents to assist in the 2010 Census.

As part of February’s Healthy Heart Month at the Sanibel Recreation Center, join us for a special one-hour cardiovascular workout set to “Sinatra” music on Monday, February 22nd from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

On Friday, February 19th at 1:30 p.m., Dr.Andy Oakes-Lottridge, MD of Personalized Health Care will present a Coping with Life Series Lecture at the Senior Center.

The following holiday weekend Special Events have been permitted by the City of Sanibel: 27th Annual Rotary Club Arts & Crafts Fair and Sanibel Island Farmer's Market.

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for the entire area until 10pm. Winds ahead of this cluster of storms are intensifying allowing for possible severe downdraft bursts of wind, in excess of 60mph.

Storms are moving in. Within the next hour or so, torrential rain is possible accompanied by gusty winds of 20 to 30mph. This is associated with a large cluster of rain and embedded thunder ahead of a cold front. The cold front will sweep across the area late this evening ending the rainfall.

Attention Animal Lovers! Gain the confidence and skills necessary to tend to unexpected pet emergencies until professional veterinary attention is acquired.

The Sanibel-Captiva Audubon Society will host a Guided Heart Friendly Bird Walk on Saturday, February 20th. Audubon Society members will identify and explain the behaviors of native birds and their habitat.

Bowman’s Beach Fitness Trail Boot Camps will be conducted every Saturday in February from 9-11 am at Bowman’s Beach Fitness Trail.

For the February 18th SCCF “Beach Walk & Talk,” hikers are to meet at the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Nature Center on Sanibel-Captiva Road at 10:00 a.m.

Alzheimer's Screenings will be offered Thursday, February 18th from 9 am - Noon. Screenings will be followed by an educational Alzheimer's Presentation from Noon - 1 pm.

The American Heart Association will give an informative presentation on “Heart Health” on Wednesday, February 17th from 10– 11 am at the Sanibel Recreation Center.
