Free Diabetes Screening by the Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club on Wednesday, November 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center
The complimentary Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club Diabetes Screening uses a tiny drop of blood extracted with an almost painless prick of the finger, which is then read by a blood glucose meter in 10 seconds. The Lion screeners have been trained and certified by a doctor and use all appropriate methods to insure antiseptic conditions and privacy during the screening. The test is appropriate for both children and adults.
Annual Shared Use Path Repairs Project - Path Parallel to Rabbit Road - November 5
On October 19th, the City of Sanibel’s contractor, Gulf Paving, began the repairs to the Shared Use Path running parallel to Rabbit Road. The work was expected to take approximately two weeks to complete however there has been another delay. The work is now expected to be finished by November 13th

LCEC (Lee County Electric Co-op) Reports That The Cause Of The Power Outage Was Due To A Sailboat
The City Of Sanibel has received notice from LCEC (Lee County Electric Co-op) that the cause of the power outage today was a sailboat making contact with the main electrical transmission line at the Matlacha Pass - the power was out on all of Sanibel, Captiva and Pine Island.

At this time The City Of Sanibel has been informed by Lee County Electric Coop (LCEC) that all power has been restored to Sanibel Island.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is open today, Sunday, November 1st 2009, during the power outage. Please be aware that the facility is not air conditioned and the pools are not open until power is regained. However, the weight room, gymnasium, tennis courts, and game room are open for use.

City Receives Algal Bloom (Red Tide) Notice and Update from Lee County Health Department
Today, the City of Sanibel received the following news release from the Lee County Health Department: A harmful algal bloom has been identified in Lee County.
TODAY - H1N1 Swine Flu Immunizations Available at the Sanibel School - Friday, October 30th
REMINDER! Today, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or as long as vaccine supply is available, the Lee County Health Department and the Sanibel-Captiva chapter of the Southwest Florida Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will be providing the H1N1 flu immunization at the Sanibel School, located at 3840 Sanibel-Captiva Road.

Halloween is on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 and trick or treating is suggested from 5 – 8:30 PM. All Sanibel patrol cars will have candy to distribute.
